Paratiisilintuja pidetään Papua-Uusi-Guinean vuoristokulttuureissa pyhinä olentoina, jotka elävät “maan ja taivaan välissä”. Niiden höyhenet symboloivat henkistä voimaa, kauneutta ja esi‑isien siunausta. Lintujen hoitoon liittyy lempeyttä ja kunnioitusta – niiden uskotaan tuovan hyvää onnea ja suojelusta.
