Applications for Artborg AiR are now open

Applications are now open for the 2027 artist residency periods. In 2027, residency opportunities are offered by the Municipality of Sipoo, Sipoon Taiteilijat ry, and Musiikkia Sipoossa ry. Each organization is responsible for the content of its residency period, the selection of artists, and all practical arrangements.

The residency provides artists with an opportunity to focus on their work in an inspiring environment and to further develop their artistic practice.

The residency includes accommodation and workspace. Participation in the residency is free of charge for the artist. Residency artists are responsible for their own living expenses and material costs during their residency period.

Application requirements

Please include the following documents with your application:

  • A free-form application letter
  • A work plan outlining your proposed activities during the residency period
  • A short curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A portfolio and/or samples of previous work (links are accepted)

 

 

Application instructions

Applications, together with all required attachments, must be submitted electronically through the “My Services” service. The maximum file size for attachments is 30 MB. Videos must be submitted as links. Please note that applications cannot be edited after submission.

Residency period

Applicants may apply for one or more of the following residency periods. Weeks 27-31 are organized in cooperation with the Sipoon Taiteilijat ry and Musiikkia Sipoossa ry.

  • Period 1, weeks 21–25, International residency artists only

Organized by the Municipality of Sipoo (visual arts, music, and performing arts)

  • Period 2, weeks 27–29

Organized by Sipoon Taiteilijat ry (visual arts)

  • Period 3, weeks 30–31

Organized by Musiikkia Sipoossa ry (the residency artist will be selected through an invitation-based process in 2027)

  • Period 4, weeks 33–34, International residency artists only

Organized by the Municipality of Sipoo (visual arts, music, and performing arts)

The Municipality of Sipoo, Sipoon Taiteilijat ry, and Musiikkia Sipoossa ry are each responsible for selecting the artist(s) for their respective residency period. The selection criteria may include organizer-specific emphases that reflect the objectives and character of each residency period.

 

Eligible artistic disciplines

The residency is intended for professionals working in the following artistic disciplines:

  • Visual and performance arts
  • Music
  • Performing arts

Individual artists working in the disciplines listed above are eligible to apply for the residency. Family members (1-2) of the artist may also stay at the residency during the residency period. Applicants are expected to demonstrate an active artistic practice and present a clear plan for their residency period.

Residency periods organized by the Municipality of Sipoo are available exclusively to international artists. The residency period organized by Sipoon Taiteilijat ry is open only to artists working in the visual arts.

 

Public Engagement During the Residency

Each residency period includes at least one public or targeted activity, which will be planned in collaboration with the residency organizer. This activity may take the form of, for example, a workshop, performance, lecture, masterclass, open studio, exhibition, concert, discussion event, open rehearsal, or audio play.

Target groups may include children, young people, senior citizens, or other groups of local residents. Applicants are asked to describe in their application how they plan to engage and involve local residents during their residency period.

Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed according to the pre-defined selection criteria outlined below.

Municipality of Sipoo Residency Periods for International Artists (Periods 1 and 4)

  • Artistic quality and professional excellence of the applicant’s work
  • Artistic quality, clarity, and viability of the proposed work plan
  • Alignment between the residency and the proposed artistic work
  • The quality and community impact of the proposed public-facing activity
  • The contribution of the residency project to Sipoo’s cultural life and cultural services

 

Sipoon Taiteilijat ry Residency Period (Period 2)

  • Artistic quality and originality of the applicant’s work
  • Quality of the proposed work plan and its suitability to the residency environment
  • The applicant’s professional artistic practice and experience in the visual arts
  • The quality and relevance of the proposed public programme
  • The project’s contribution to the applicant’s artistic development and professional practice

 

Musiikkia Sipoossa ry Residency Period (Period 3)

The residency artist for 2027 will be selected through an invitation-based process. The selection will be made by Musiikkia Sipoossa ry in accordance with its own selection criteria and procedures.
