X-ray services

The Sipoo X-ray Clinic serves special health care and municipal basic health care patients in the entire HUS region, regardless of the patient’s municipality of residence. You need an electronic referral for the examinations. The Sipoo X-ray Unit services include basic X-ray examinations (X-ray imaging of the skeleton and lungs, and panoramic imaging of teeth).

The following scans are not included in Sipoo X-ray services:

  • scoliosis scans of the spine, and mechanical axial scans of the lower limbs (done in Porvoo hospital X-ray unit)
  • bone density measurements (Elielinaukio X-ray unit, Helsinki)
  • ultrasound imaging (Porvoo hospital X-ray unit)

A referral written in any of the HUS care units is valid in all HUS Imaging units.

Do the following

You may visit the Sipoo X-ray unit also without an appointment for basic imaging. If you wish to make an appointment, you can do so online by clicking at the link on this site. Choose “X-ray” at the appointment menu. If you have several referrals to the X-ray services, please make sure to make two consecutive appointments. You can also make an appointment by calling us, or when you make an appointment to see a doctor, for example after your previous visit to a doctor.

In order to hear the results, make an X-ray results appointment (telephone or reception appointment) with a doctor or a nurse.

To whom and on what terms

All examinations are carried out following a referral only. The referral is written by a doctor in your health care centre, or by a hospital district doctor. Municipal imaging units do not carry out examinations following a referral written by private doctors.

In public health care, a doctor’s referral is always required for imaging examinations. Private service providers also offer imaging services without a referral.

Basic information and legislation

Imaging can be used to assist in the examination of illnesses and monitoring treatments. Imaging includes X-rays and CT scans, MRI and ultrasound scans, thermal imaging, and isotope analyses. Vital functions, such as sleep, alertness, or the brain’s electrical activity, can also be imaged.

Imaging is performed by hospitals, health and social services centres, and private service providers. Some images can also be taken at home and forwarded to the correct party.
