Basic information and legislation

A person with severe disabilities is entitled to personal assistance if they need it permanently. The need for and duration of the assistance is assessed by a social worker. A personal assistant helps the person with disabilities at home and outside the home, in work and studying, and in hobbies, civic participation and social interaction.

The service can be organised in different ways, either by a public or a private service provider.
