Sipoo, located right next to the capital region, offers travelers beautiful nature and diverse recreational oppprtunities, You can roam the markes trails of the hardwood forests, cycle on the dense local road network, or enjoy the traditional rural landscape as you go paddling along the Sipoo Rver - all just half an hour´s drive from Helsinki

According to an old folktale, Vikings built the ancient Sibbesborg castle at the mouth of the Sipoo River. However, it was more likely built by Danish Crusaders. The man in power may have been called Sibb or Sibbaa, from which the municipality later tooks its name. The ruins af the surrounding walls are all that remains of the fortifications.
A wolf adorns the Sipoo coat of arms. references to the Sipoo wolf dat back to the 1700s. The name comes from either the Swedish word 2varjäger" referring to the Vikings or 2 vargar" - a wolf that once roamed the area

Eastern River Park
Rhe city of Helsinki founded Nikkilä Mental Hospital in Sipoo in 1914. Now the forer hospital area, renamed Eastern River Park,is the site of restored Art Nouveau-style apartments in the orginal park setting. It´s definitely worth taking a walk through the area!
In 2004, the former laundry was turned into a versatile cultural institute called Artborg 35. The building has workspace for artists, and art instruction is also provided there. The high-ceilinged laundry hall serves as a beautiful exhibition space in the summer.

Culture and conserts
The main library of Sipoo and the Topeliussali auditorium are both located in Nikkilä. The library presents art displays that change on a monthly basis. The municipality has several sites that are ideal for holding concerts, theatrical performances, or semiinars. the Topeliussali auditorium at the library, the A.I.Virtanen auditorium at Sipoonjoki School, and the Wessman auditorium at Kungsvägens School. Each facility is named after an important person who lived in Sipoo. You can rent the auditoriums for private, institutional, or corporate use.
Söderkulla Manor dates bach more than 400 years, and you can really feel the past in the beautiful park that surrounds the present main building, which was built in 1908. The outdoor stage at Söderkulla Manor is the site of theater performances, dances ond sing-alongs during the summer.

Out and about in nature
About 100 people live years-round in the archipelago, but things get busier during the summer. That´s when those with summer homes return to the archipelago, boat traffic increases, and hikers make their way to the islands. Beautiful old villas are an indication of how long humans have made the archipelago their home.
The Sipoonkorpi forest area offers many hectares of unique natural beaty close to the capital region. The forest show true Finnish nature at its best, and the marked paths indicate the way for hikers exploring the forest.
Sipoo is known as a good place for horse lovers. There are seven riding schools and more than 100 stables in the area, which means that you´re more likely to see horses than cows at pasture in Sipoo.
You can play golf at two diffrent courses in Sipoo . Nevas Golf and Golf Talma. The nine-hole winter par three at Talma Ski allows golfers the opportunity to play throughout the year. Talma Ski is one of the best downhill skiing spots in southern Finland, a ski center with a wide range of offerings as well as a restaurant where you can take a break from skiing and snowboarding.
